Alex Goodale

My focus in teaching is art and creative writing but I can teach anything that my students or I are excited about! I have experience with subjects ranging from immigration history to all about dinosaurs, I’ve taken my students on field trips all around Los Angeles (and New York City!), and have even co-taught a ukulele class! I have years of experience as a yard supervisor and homeschool teacher which has helped to hone my playful and flexible style of teaching. I want to have fun and learn alongside my students as the world is expansive, ever-changing, and fascinating! My focus is visual art and writing in particular as I am a passionate illustrator, playwright, and poet myself. I started writing plays at sixteen while being homeschooled myself so I understand the value of forging your own path and having the freedom to explore your passions. I practice illustrating most days and love to learn and share about new artists and styles that I discover. In all of my past writing classes and in my experience tutoring, I incorporate lessons in poetry as I find it accessible to all students and instrumental in developing a unique voice and strengthening one’s descriptive abilities. In addition to my experience with alternative schooling and teaching, I’ve run art therapy summer camps for years where I’ve gotten to work with a wide variety of kids of different abilities ages five through eighteen. I’ve gotten to adapt creative curricula for all sorts of kids, while working alongside therapists. Outside of teaching, I am a passionate car-spotter, pasta cooker, and florist. I find myself deeply interested in the world around me and I love sharing homeschooled students’ passions and curiosities about anything and everything we can see, hear, or read about!
