I teach music through exploration and discovery using student input and questions as the catalyst. I demystify the mechanics and science of music theory and composition and present it with easy to understand rules, tips and tricks.

I've had musical instruments at arms reach since early childhood.

At age 11 I quit piano lessons after becoming frustrated at the slow pace and choice of material. I've since come to appreciate tunes like this but without context its a tough sell to most kids.

I picked up guitar in my early teens and when I couldn't find a bass player I taught myself that. When I couldn't find a drummer I taught myself that too.

From there I played anything I could get my hands and feet on. I am not an expert on any one instrument but skilled on most things that can be strummed, struck, plucked, bowed or banged.

I worked in a record store as a buyer for 6 years which gave me access to every genre that was ever put on vinyl, tape or CD prior to 1996. In the years since I have continued to follow and embrace new music and genres. I feel that music, good or bad, has the power to unite, ignite and change culture.

In the past I have played and toured in groups, run my own recording studio and released music commercially at an independent level. I currently play and record as much music as my family life and job as an IT professional will allow.

My goal as a teacher is to leave the students with a lifelong desire to play music socially. Group musical interaction is a language in itself that has the ability to connect humans on a different level.
